A Saturable Core Reactor (SCR) in Electrical Engineering is a special form of inductor where the magnetic core saturation by means of auxillary excitation coil. A d-c winding that furnishes the premagnetization and with an a-c winding between an a-c source and a load to which the current is controlled by varying the amount of premagnetization.
Saturable reactors that are can be used to varying the output or as Shunt in power system. In power quality SCR used as a shunt to decompensate the excess reactive power in the circuit and performance in unbalanced load is superior than any other solution. As decompensation can be done super fast in unbalanced load SCR is superior in dynamic performance. Hence real time power factor compensation on three phase/single phase 50/60 Hz system either in balanced or unbalanced load is possible.
Also Saturable Reactors are playing major role in solving various other issues like Mitigation of Harmonics, Surge/Transients or any over voltage issues.
As the inductance value of these reactors are controlled by input DC source lightning fast control is possible to synchronize its output of in phase with AC system.
These reactors are available from 0.5kvar to 100kVar single/three phase and voltage rating of 230 to 690 V 50/60 Hz system.
Tailor Made design also can be done upon request.
